The house is even more open than the photographs suggest. We had every breakfast on the terrace with the sound of the swell behind us. Baie Longue is five minutes on foot and we never met a soul there.

Terres Basses · Saint-Martin
Fifteen minutes by boat to Anguilla, five minutes on foot to the beach. The villa holds both.

The place
Villa Alizéa sits at the far end of a plot in Terres Basses, the residential quarter that closes off the western tip of Saint-Martin between Baie Longue and Baie Rouge. The living room does not shut: it carries on into a covered terrace, a pool, then the garden of sand and coconut palms.
The trade wind — the alizé — crosses the house from morning to evening. It gave the place its name, and it is why the house was drawn without a corridor or a needless wall.

Four genuinely separate bedrooms, which changes everything when two couples travel with children. Faultless welcome, and the end-of-stay cleaning saves any awkward conversation.

We wanted quiet without being cut off from everything: Terres Basses is perfect for that. Marigot is ten minutes away for the Saturday market.
